Café la Buca is a small, unassuming and totally awesome Italian restaurant in Pompano Beach, Florida. It is located in a small strip of stores off of Cypress Road. As soon as we entered the restaurant we were greeted by the café’s larger than life Italian owner and chef, Marco! He will tell you many times over that he hails from the gorgeous and small seaside village of Napoli in Italy. That is where he pulls all of his inspiration for his tasty Italian dishes.
They recently added a wine and beer license to the restaurant and sell wine, but it is allowed and recommended to BYOW. There is no corkage fee and they gladly will open and serve you your own vino.
There is NO MENU. You have to learn to trust the professionals when dining here. Marco came out to our table, counted how many guests we had and then asked if anyone had any food allergies. Once he did that he took off to the kitchen! We didn’t question his recommendations and instead let him have free range on what to prepare for us.
For appetizers we had the sautéed mushrooms, roasted yellow and red peppers, the grilled zucchini stuffed with fresh mozzarella and fresh mozzarella with freshly baked bread.
The next and final course for us was the pasta dishes! Again, we let chef Marco suggest and order for us. He brought out the linguine with clams, pappardelle with bolognese and rigatoni with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella. All the pastas were some of the very best I have ever had. Can’t go wrong here!
The deserts were out of this word. Limoncello cake and canolis. No words can describe how good the cake was, so just go get it! I can’t wait till my next visit, which will be soon and often. Go see chef Marco and his staff ASAP for real Italian cuisine and dining!
